Graphic identity

PLAYGROUND is a 250 m2 space featuring a collection of 7 games by artists Rasheed Araeen, Vidya Gastaldon, Stéphanie Probst, Neide Sá, Denis Savary, Alexia Turlin, and Galaxia Wang. It also offers a dedicated workshop area for mediation activities.

PLAYGROUND serves as a bridge between exhibitions at MAMCO, Centre d’Art Ccontemporain Genève, and Centre de la photographie Genève (CPG). This project offers a preview of the upcoming 2025-2026 renovation, involving the collaboration of the three museums.

For the graphic identity, we selected the "ABC Whyte Inktrap" typeface by Dinamo for its playful inktrap styles, evoking childhood games with interlocking pieces. We used the cutouts as a strong symbol of the communication. This graphic concept extends to various mediums like posters, social media, and potential future applications on furniture, games and wayfinding.

Playground offers free access three days a week, featuring seven artist games in each episode. For this first episode, we aimed for a colorful and playful design. We used color blocks, cutouts, and shapes influenced by the giant toboggan, the first artist game visible entering the space.

As it is a new space in Geneva, the challenge was to communicate about PLAYGROUND as a play space rather than an exhibition. We emphasized the name by placing the logo as the main element, together with a clear baseline, ensuring a straightforward understanding.

The wayfinding is using elements of the typography, such as a segment of the letter 'G' to create arrows. We developed a series of signage posters translated in various languages. Each of them use the “inktrap” like pieces that could fit together.

As we envision the signage evolving with each episode, we would like to explore 3D signage and implement the interlocking pieces idea in the signage communication.

The digital communication follows the global identity and uses color blocks, reminding the games present in the space.

For the inaugural weekend, we created an animation with moving segments, texts, and shapes to reveal the project. Additionally, we established a system to explain the various artists' games. The digital communication is used on social media, the monthly newsletter and the website.
